An unstructured visit to NJ's Fish and Wildlife crown jewel – the Pequest Trout Hatchery. Activities include tours of the hatchery that produces almost 1 million fish for release each year, environmental and conservation exhibits, demonstrations by wildlife artists, carvers, and taxidermist. The Hatchery also open some of their tanks and the adjacent Pequest River for fishing. This trip will help our scouts earn the "Bear Goes Fishing" elective.
Hatchery Address: 605 Pequest Rd, Oxford, NJ 07863

- First Aid Kit – A kit should include a few adhesive bandages, some moleskin (a sticky bandage that you can put over a blister to keep it from getting worse or rubbing), and a bandage or two.
- Filled Water Bottle – Make sure it is big enough to carry water for you to drink through your whole hike and back. And make sure it is full when you start out! It is not safe to drink water you find along the trail.
- Flashlight – Check your batteries to make sure they have plenty of juice. Your flashlight will be used only in an emergency, so save the batteries for times when you really need them!
- Trail Food – Trail mix or a granola bar provide quick energy when you need it.
- Sun Protection – Sunscreen should be SPF 30 or greater. A hat is good to have, too!
- Whistle – It's only for emergencies, but a whistle will last longer than your voice.
You are welcome to invite any friends and families with boys that are Cub Scout age (grades K-5). Please be sure to RSVP to let us know you are coming and how many guests to expect.
This is the first of a two part meeting in which we'll be completing the Baloo the Builder requirement. The boys will be introduced to hand tools, their care and workshop safety. in preparation for building a project in our follow up meeting, we'll be practicing techniques with 4 different hand tools; a ruler/square, a handsaw, a coping saw, and a hand drill/brace. The boys should brig their tool box that they built last year, along with a ruler, a pencil, and a Phillips head screw driver. If you have a square, a handsaw, or a coping saw, please bring that as well.
We'll be working in the area of my workshop where space is limited and expensive/potentially dangerous tools abound. So I ask that you be mindful of that in regards of bringing siblings.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and see you then,
Craig
Please RSVP if you can Join. Weather is looking good. Parking is at the Tent Camping area which is across the street from the address listed on this event. There is a sign that shows tent camping. Park at the closes parking lot on the right near entrance. there is a shed there where they keep fire wood. Call my cell 973-460-1029 if you have any trouble finding it but should be easy. There will be food at this event too.
See you soon,
Ian
Hello Wolf Parents,
Since 1 mile hike is the only requirement pending for most kids, I am cancelling the Thursday meeting and scheduling a hike for our den at Mountain Way trails for this Saturday May 11th. Please do RSVP, so I can have the count of families attending. Pleasedo reply with a confirmation if your scout has completed the cyber chip requirement, I had sent in the details in March email. If you have missed it, the URL for cyber chip is https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/cyber-chip/grades-1-3/
I look forward to having most scouts earn their wolf badge at next pack meeting. Please finish the cyber chip as soon as possible and let me know so I can mark them down.
Thanks
