Wolf Den Meeting @ Littleton Gym
Oct 26 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

As a follow up to our camping trip and in preparation for an upcoming hike – we'll be working on elements of Call of the Wild and Paws on the Path requirements.  We'll be reviewing the Leave No Trace principles and how we should apply them, the Cub Scout Outdoor code and what it means, the Cub Scout's 6 essential things to bring for a hike, and practicing the buddy system.  As a part of putting some of these things into practice we'll be taking an evening walk around the school.  So please have your son bring small light source (a small flashlight, headlamp, battery powered lantern, etc.).

Please join Pack 142 on our Fall Hike!

Event Date: Sunday, November 5, 2017
Event Time: 1:00PM – 3:30PM
Event Location: Hacklebarney State Park – 119 Hacklebarney Rd, Long Valley, NJ 07853-9525
Dress Requirements: Pack T-Shirt/Layers

We invite all pack members and interested guests to attend our fall hike! We will be hiking at the the Hacklebarney State Park. Hiking trails in the northern portions of the 465-acre natural area offer breathtaking views of the Black River, which lies deep within a shaded hemlock ravine. Rinehart and Trout Brooks empty into the Black river and several small waterfalls can be seen from the high trails. The diversity of upland and wetland habitats provides excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Directions:
Rt 206 to 513 W. Just past Cooper Mill make a left onto State Park Road. (There are signs) Continue for about 2 miles and make a right onto Hacklebarney Road. Park entrance on the left. Small parking lot with a monument just as you enter, turn left within that lot and follow the park road to a larger lot.

Scouts that are working towards their hiking requirement should bring a backpack with the Cub Scout Six Essentials for Hiking.
  1. First Aid Kit – A kit should include a few adhesive bandages, some moleskin (a sticky bandage that you can put over a blister to keep it from getting worse or rubbing), and a bandage or two.
  2. Filled water bottle Make sure it is big enough to carry water for you to drink through your whole hike and back. And make sure it is full when you start out! It is not safe to drink water you find along the trail.
  3. Flashlight Check your batteries to make sure they have plenty of juice. Your flashlight will be used only in an emergency, so save the batteries for times when you really need them!
  4. Trail food Trail mix or a granola bar provide quick energy when you need it.
  5. Sun Protection Sunscreen should be SPF 30 or greater. A hat is good to have, too!
  6. Whistle It's only for emergencies, but a whistle will last longer than your voice.
