Spring Hike @ Jockey Hollow State Park
Apr 28 @ 1:00 pm – 3:45 pm

*****  Cancelled due to Weather *****

____________________________________________________________

Please join Pack 142 on our Spring Hike!

Event Date: Sunday, April 28, 2019
Event Time: 1:00PM – 3:45PM
Event Location: Jockey Hollow State Park (see below for exact location)
Dress Requirements: Pack T-Shirt/Layers

Event Update:  We will be starting our hike at the parking lot at the New York Brigade Trail, and will be walking the 3.0 mile New York Brigade trail.  This is near the intersection of Jockey Hollow Road and Grand Parade Road; a park map is attached with the parking lot circled.  I've also found that if you enter the address 713 Jockey Hollow Rd, Morristown, NJ in your GPS, it will take you close to the parking lot and you will just need to proceed another short distance to the correct parking lot.
Our plan is to start the hike at 1pm.  So please try to arrive by 12:50pm.  Be sure to bring water and snacks, even if you don't need to meet any hiking requirements (see below).

Thanks,

Steve

Pack 142 would like to invite all members to our Spring Hike! All scouts should ensure that they review the requirements in their handbook prior to attending to ensure that they come with all required materials

Scouts that are working towards their hiking requirement should bring a backpack with the Cub Scout Six Essentials for Hiking.
  1. First Aid Kit – A kit should include a few adhesive bandages, some moleskin (a sticky bandage that you can put over a blister to keep it from getting worse or rubbing), and a bandage or two.
  2. Filled Water Bottle – Make sure it is big enough to carry water for you to drink through your whole hike and back. And make sure it is full when you start out! It is not safe to drink water you find along the trail.
  3. Flashlight – Check your batteries to make sure they have plenty of juice. Your flashlight will be used only in an emergency, so save the batteries for times when you really need them!
  4. Trail Food – Trail mix or a granola bar provide quick energy when you need it.
  5. Sun Protection – Sunscreen should be SPF 30 or greater. A hat is good to have, too!
  6. Whistle – It's only for emergencies, but a whistle will last longer than your voice.
We are looking forward to welcoming some new families and visitors that are interested in finding out more about Pack 142 to our pack meeting!

Bear Den Meeting @ Mazur household
May 9 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

This is the first of a two part meeting in which we'll be completing the Baloo the Builder requirement.  The boys will be introduced to hand tools, their care and workshop safety.  in preparation for building a project in our follow up meeting, we'll be practicing techniques with 4 different hand tools; a ruler/square, a handsaw, a coping saw, and a hand drill/brace.  The boys should brig their tool box that they built last year, along with a ruler, a pencil, and a Phillips head screw driver.  If you have a square, a handsaw, or a coping saw, please bring that as well.

We'll be working in the area of my workshop where space is limited and expensive/potentially dangerous tools abound. So I ask that you be mindful of that in regards of bringing siblings.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and see you then,

Craig
